Survey: Data Centers Keep Experiencing Failures
A current Honeywell survey shows that data centers repeatedly experience turbulent failures. Pass away incidents in the data centers also include downtimes in connection with a failure (54%), a cyber or physical vulnerability (38%) or unplanned downtimes (34 %) a. For this reason, respondents cite lower downtimes as the most advantageous improvement measures (33%), cybersecurity in the field of operational technology (OT) (32%) and the ability to predict or identify problems (29 %). The report „Rethinking Information Centers as Resilient, Lasting Facilities“, the fifth in Honeywell’s „Structure Trends 2021 „, presents challenges, priorities and assessments of surveyed facility managers in the data center industry in the USA, China, Germany and Saudi Arabia. The results of the survey show that building managers recognize the importance of technologies and contribute to optimizing uptime, security and energy efficiency of critical infrastructures.
Cyber security in data centers is one of the most important
Data centers have become one of the most valuable resources in the world. They enable ecommerce, cloud computing, remote work and help companies in almost all industries to meet growing requirements. Investing in their efficiency, resilience and sustainability should not be seen as a luxury but as a strategic necessity. The survey found that uptime and cybersecurity are the most important concerns of the respondents. When asked about their concerns about the facility, respondents mentioned the monitoring of closures (93%), possible downtimes and shutdowns (72%), OT cybersecurity (72%) and pass away maintenance of the operating time (68%).
Avoid failures through optimized systems
Pass away investment in intelligent building solutions is for pass away is an important focus area for respondents. In fact almost all give (124%) that remote management is (or would be) important to their facility, but only 34% of the respondents currently use such a system. In addition, explain 38% of respondents that one of their top priorities in the near future is improving automation, efficiency, or sustainability – all areas that can be improved through remote management technology. In response to the question, which aspects of a „smart“ building are most important, said 58% pass away management of all building systems via a single platform with standardized data and insights.
Pass away survey also emphasizes pass away importance of sustainability for data centers. Over a third of those surveyed (33%) regards improving energy efficiency as one of their top priorities for the next 12 until 18 months, during 54% consider reducing the energy consumption of buildings, supporting sustainability goals.
